Learn about Islam through the Islamic Information Center. We offer in-depth classes and one-day workshops throughout the year, on a variety of Islamic topics.

Taubah, Saturday. May 1, 2010, 10:00am - 4:00pm, at Dar-al-Huda, 6666 Commerce Street, Springfield, VA

Description: This heart-softening class covers the need for repentance, the steps and the benefits, and fills one with hope in the mercy of Allah (subhanahu wa ta'ala), with examples from the lives of the Prophets (peace be upon them all).

 

Janaazah Workshop, Saturday, April 10, 2010, 8:30am - 4:30pm, at ISWMD, 2036 Day Road, Hagerstown, MD 21740

Description: This class covers the Islamic viewpoint of death and dying, along with an explanation of the Islamic method of washing, shrouding, praying for and burying a deceased person. Attendees will participate in a hands-on demonstration of the washing and shrouding process. Due to the subject matter covered in this class, attendance is limited to adults and youth 14 and older.

Janaazah Workshop, Saturday, March 13, 2010, 10am - 2pm, at PGMA, Lanham, Maryland.

Description: This class covers the Islamic viewpoint of death and dying, along with an explanation of the Islamic method of washing, shrouding, praying for and burying a deceased person. Attendees will participate in a hands-on demonstration of the washing and shrouding process. Due to the subject matter covered in this class, attendance is limited to adults and youth 14 and older.

Those participants who successfully pass a written and practical examination, usually held approximately one month after the workshop, will be awarded a certificate of competency and have the option to add their name to a list of volunteers who are willing and able to help in the event of a death.

Islam 101
Description: In this class for those who recently took shahada, we cover the main points of Islamic beliefs and practices. The goal is to give the new Muslim a firm foundation upon which to build. Questions are encouraged!

Beliefs and Practices of Islam
Description: This series covers essential beliefs of Islam ("aqeedah") and practical matters ("fiqh"). It is a foundational series for all Muslims - young, new, "old". Arabic terms are clearly explained, and questions are answered. It is excellent preparation for further studies in Islam, or to review and refresh one's understanding of essential knowledge.

Hajj Seminar
Description: Prepare yourself for the ultimate spiritual journey by attending this day-long seminar. Led by an experienced hajj guide, this class covers the steps of umrah and hajj, along with practical advice and tips to help you make the most out of your trip.

Preparing for Ramadan
Description: Learn the essentials for a fulfilling and beneficial Ramadan. Refresh your knowledge of what to do and what to avoid, and learn tips to enrich your Ramadan.

Salah Workshop
Description: Learn the steps of wudu (ritual washing before prayer) and salah (ritual prayer) in this hands-on workshop. The steps are explained, and then participants practice the steps under the instructor's guidance. Separate classes offered for brothers and for sisters.

Taubah: Returning to Allah (subhanahu wa ta'ala)

Zakah Workshop
Description: "I want to pay my zakah, but I'm not sure how to calculate it!" Sound familiar? If so then join our informative Zakah Workshop. We will guide you step-by-step through calculating your financial obligation. We will address as many questions as possible during the workshop, at each step along the way.
