LA/Math Camp

Description

Ages 7 to 11. A Language Arts and Math Refresher Course. Students can enjoy the summer with daily sports and occasional field trips in a wholesome Islamic environment.

Purpose

The purpose of this program is to review elementary level (3rd, 4th, and 5th grade) language arts and math to prepare students for the next grade level. This course helps students strengthen their skills to excel in these crucial subjects.

Structure

For math, the class covers place value, fractions, addition, subtraction, division, multiplication and word problems depending on grade level. Homework is assigned on a daily basis. 3rd, 4th and 5th grades Singapore math books are used.

For Language Arts there are daily readings of grade level books followed by writing assignments. We will also cover grammar, including discussion of sentence structure, nouns, pronouns, verbs, adverbs, adjectives, and helping/linking verbs. There will also be some art activities relating to the reading assignments Insha’Allah.

Sections

This year, there will be two sections insha Allah:

1. First Section: For rising 3rd and 4th graders (ages 8 to 9)

2. Second section: For rising 5th and 6th graders (ages 10 to 11).

Sports

We understand that summer is a time where children are very energetic, and want to do fun activities. We hope that our Summer Camp will make this summer a very memorable summer for our beloved students. We will have some or all of the following activities during the summer camp and more, Insha’Allah:

I. Basketball

II. Soccer

III. Football

IV. Track

V. Team Building

Field Trips

To make the experience enjoyable for our youth, we will conduct different field trips during the course of the camp. The field trips will be fun and exciting, and will help enhance the students’ Islamic understanding.

Typically, the field trips will take place on Wednesdays, though this may change due to weather or scheduling reasons. To enhance this experience, we would appreciate if each parent can commit to volunteer as a chaperone on at least one of the Wednesdays. We would also appreciate if the parents can offer their vans/cars to transport students to the field trips. This will help reduce the costs of the field trips, make the trips safer for our students, and allow the parents to be closely involved in their child’s education.
